More About Me

Kathleen Penland-Jones is an Asheville area native, growing up in South Asheville, and later Swannanoa. She lived in downtown Asheville for a decade enjoying the eclectic food and music scene until a quieter life called her and she fell in love with Haywood County. In 2015, a single mother at the time, Kathleen bought her first home in Canton. She refurbished the property as she had always dreamt of growing up and watching HGTV with her mom.

From childhood through a winding career path, all roads eventually led to houses and homes. Kathleen’s first line of work in the restaurant industry helped hone her work ethic, professionalism, and skills in customer service, teamwork, leadership, communication, and multitasking. When the economy crashed in 2008 she decided to go to AB-Tech for a Civil Engineering Technology degree. She then worked as a Civil Designer for seven years doing all the things required prior to building with an emphasis on planning and zoning. This emphasis led her to the feasibility study team which helps developers determine the highest and best use for a property and estimates the cost to achieve that goal. Kathleen has been able to do private consulting from this to help people with problems ranging from what their zoning allows for a rental property to how to get their backyard to drain properly to property line disputes.

Civil Engineering is problem solving and putting moving pieces of a puzzle together, much like buying and renovating a home. With her unique professional background and significant personal experience as a property investor and house-flipper she brings sensibility, knowledge, and experience to the home buying process. As a wife, mother of three, and lifelong resident of WNC, Kathleen brings neighborly understanding to what can be an overwhelming experience. She is eager to help buyers find a house in the mountains and make it their dream home.
